During a face-to-face Reiki session, the practitioner typically places their hands lightly on or just above the recipient's body, following a series of hand positions to channel healing energy.

In a Reiki session for pets, a practitioner typically uses gentle, non-invasive hand placements either directly on the animal or a short distance away. The practitioner serves as a channel for universal life energy, directing it towards the pet to help release any blockages and stimulate the body's natural healing abilities.
